THINK Big: WAYVE Conference took place on November 6, 2014. Passionate youth from across the Region of Waterloo came together to participate in this fun filled day. We talked about leadership and making a difference, particularly through social media. We talked about THINKing before you post, tweet, or text and came up with some great activities to run in schools.
This year Jessica del Rosso was our keynote speaker and she really engaged and inspired us all! She shared her story and experience with us and showed us a video about Youth Leaving Care. We are so happy that she was able to join us! Here is her bio if you want to know a bit more about Jessica.
Jessica del Rosso
At the age of 15, Jessica entered the foster care system after her parents discovered that she was gay. Her grades began falling, she began using drugs and self-harming, developed anxiety/panic disorders and PTSD. However, during grade 11, she decided that she wanted a better future! She began volunteering, public speaking, and became an advocate for youth. She is a graduate from the Social Development Studies program as well as the Bachelor of Social Work program from the University of Waterloo. Jessica will be sharing her story and her passions. She will present an interactive monologue which she hopes will inspire and spread awareness on mental health, positive coping and self care.
We also heard from Cat Coode at Binary Tattoo and Christiane Sadeler from the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council. We really enjoyed what they shared with us in terms of social media and the THINK campaign.
We certainly had a busy day! Thanks to everyone who was able to join us. Check out some pictures of the day and what we talked about!
